FESTIVAL CONTINUES TO SHARE THE HERITAGE
Provincetown Portuguese Festival Celebration 2022
June 23 - June 26, 2022
The Provincetown Portuguese Festival & Blessing of the Fleet is a time-honored tradition that
has flourished and grown thanks to the continued effort of its many volunteers. The Festival
honors our Portuguese traditions while the Blessing recognizes the courage and fortitude of
the Portuguese fishermen who risked their lives on the open seas to feed their families and to
share their catch with residents of their unique fishing village.
It’s a tradition that is as vital today as it was 75 years ago. When June was proclaimed
Portuguese Heritage Month in 1998 by the Governor of Massachusetts, the traditional Blessing
was expanded to encompass the Portuguese Festival.
The Festival now embraces four town-wide, fun and activity-filled days of music, dancing and
food, as well as the colorful pageantry of our popular parade. Culminating at the end of
Macmillan Pier on the last Sunday in June, the blessings of good fortune for the coming year
are bestowed by clergy on fishing vessels and leisure craft.

We thank you for helping the Festival Team continue this important tradition of the Blessing of
the Fleet and Portuguese Festival.
We are hoping you will join us in Sharing the Heritage this year!
